Stein's Insects

Toronto poet-in-exile, Iza Bryniarska, draws from her collection, taking us back in time to a Toronto of three years ago, those days of yore, when Mondays had ceased being Fridays, and beer-eyed boys could try to wreak havoc with a young lady’s heart. Maybe. Call it the birth of modernity, if you want.

EARTH HOUR 2008. 60 minutes of global goodness or just a cool way to spend an hour this Saturday evening?

“You’re either for ‘em or agin’ ‘em . I guess that’s how it is in this town.”

Andrea Ledwell rants about the coffee guy talking politics and her Earth Hour dilemma.

IS THIS HOCKEY?

“Now, let me say this. I am a fan of hockey and will admit to being a fan of fighting in hockey. I’m not going to lie.”

Mike Lummis confronts his inner Don Cherry in an essay about the recent bout-Roy.

The full title of the painting which inspired our magazine title is Homo sapiens, Lepidium sativum and Calliphora vomitoria - a wise man, some cress, and a bluebottle. It is the work of British artist Stuart Pearson Wright.

"At the end of the first sitting, the Prince inspected the work and exclaimed 'godzooks' or 'godzounds', the artist was too alarmed to remember which."
