Down Time

“This is the remarkable resilience of the Toronto actor. Essentially, we are rejected so often that we lose track of what we’ve auditioned for.”

Regular contributor and local actor, Mike Lummis, muses on the balance of ups and downs in his line of work.

Laws are like sausages…

“And of course there is always the old saying about sausages and hotdogs – It’s all tits, lips, and assholes.”

Gadzooks! editor and fan of processed meat products, Rod Weatherbie, gets into the down and dirty of a sausage party and somehow it all comes down to the law?

April Is…

“One could argue that Michael Ondaatje personifies the Toronto literary scene…”

Gadzooks! celebrates an iconic Toronto Poet.

STEFAN BOUDREAULT: NO TELL
A photographic study of Toronto's inner city motels
April 1 - April 30
Opening Friday April 4 @ 6:30
La Galerie (with Alliance-Francaise Toronto)
24 Spadina (one block north of Bloor)

As a documentary still photographer Stefan Boudreault’s goal with this project was to capture the essence of Toronto's inner city motels by cataloguing vacant rooms and their holdings. With a careful balance of grit and serenity his images form a landscape of urban despair granting theviewer access to a world otherwise ignored.

ARTUR ZMIJEWSKI
Part of Toronto ’s IMAGES FESTIVAL
GALLERY TPW 56 Ossington Avenue
April 5- May 3, 2008

Gallery TPW is pleased to present work by Polish artist Artur Zmijewski, most known for his provocative and discomforting video work. Often inviting people to participate in social experiments, his documentary-style videos unabashedly rip open the safety nets and social contracts built into the terms of contemporary representation. In doing so, viewers are left to consider their own limitations in coming face-to-face with others potentially perceived as difficult or different.

HOT TICKET!
Toronto’s Images Festival, an annual spring celebration of experimental and independent film and video runs from Thursday, April 3 until Sunday, April 13. Check out the on-line calendar or pick up a schedule at your local hipply independent video store.

The full title of the painting which inspired our magazine title is Homo sapiens, Lepidium sativum and Calliphora vomitoria - a wise man, some cress, and a bluebottle. It is the work of British artist Stuart Pearson Wright.

"At the end of the first sitting, the Prince inspected the work and exclaimed 'godzooks' or 'godzounds', the artist was too alarmed to remember which."
