I Saw...

I still don't know what the heck this is - hope it doesn't fall over though!

I lived down the street from this curiosity for a few years; asking neighbours and friends about its original shape and purpose didn’t result in any clear answer.

Located on Berkeley Street north of Dundas, it provides a glassless window on the in-transition Regent Park project to the residents of lovely Cabbagetown rowhouses on Berkeley street’s west side.

Propped up and fenced in, the wall looks forlorn – the fence was a bit too high to climb without ripping my clothes (my sister was the tomboy) but I always had the urge to do so, as if running my hands along the brick wall or standing in the stone entrance would reveal to me the once-building’s secrets.

I’m still wondering; I remember looking through the wire mesh, through a window from which people once looked out, and instead seeing sky. In losing its dimension, the structure has been turned inside out, acquiring a mysterious scope.
