LAMENT

Gallery 260

May 24 - June 21
Wed- Sat 12PM – 6PM
Opening Reception Saturday, May 24 2-6PM
He’s the guy that crawled along Queen Street last November to repent environmental ruin. Gareth Bate received the 401 Richmond Career-Launcher Prize and was given a studio space for one year. The painting series “Lament” takes a melancholic approach to Canadian landscape painting. His paintings focus on places that are special to him, including Grenadier Pond in High Park and Kings County, PEI (hey! who’s your father?!) but sound kind of sad, like a sad song sort of sad, which sometimes can be sort of good. Like when you were in high school and listened to The Smiths over and over again. Yeah. Just like that.

May 21 – 31
Wed- Sat 12PM – 5PM
The two women will sit and converse for the duration of the gallery hours. Apparently they’ve been having regular conversations for the last 15 years. The show is a study of the interweaving of the two selves – the play of the conversation – but allows the viewer to participate vicariously in it. The conversation is available on streaming audio here.
