Meet Michael Smith, lifelong resident of Toronto and member of the auspicious writer’s collective, the 49th, and it’s a fact, he likes to write and laugh. You can meet him on June 3 at the Gadzooks! meet and greet at the Victory Cafe, because Mike said he’d be there. Right? Where did you grow up? Why? Toronto. My parents settled here in the 60s. How long have you been in Toronto? How old am I? Toronto is… ...my home town. What do you do for a living? Work in TV. What keeps you busy? Writing and laughing. What was your favourite summer job? Working in parking lots which was getting paid to read. Dream job? Why? Scriptwriter for a well funded Canadian drama. Why? Because this will always be a dream. What’s your passion? Friendships. If I say jump? Why? What do you give back to the No Fly Zone? I give back appreciation of my physical surroundings. I never take it for granted. What can we do to make Toronto a "world class" city? More subways and a more stable and efficient funding model for city finances which will let us do more great things. Are you an artist? Maybe. Not too worried about that. How does art influence your life? Enlightens my mind. Keeps me thinking. Hands or feet? Hands, but with a caveat: I love feet. Worst public moment? Attempting the song ‘Respect’ at karaoke. Why do you live here? I love it. Two Beatles left: Ringo and Paul. Who wins in a smackdown? Really? Ringo, no question. Favourite public space? High Park. Who are your favourite Toronto artists? Joel Brubacher, Mike Lummis, Justin Rutledge, Melanie Gordon, many unknown graffiti and sidewalk chalk artists, Karen Kain, the bassist with the great 'stache in the TSO. So many others. Mon Chi Chi, My Little Pony, Barbie? discuss. Mon Chi Chi: Cute and cuddly with some attitude. Barbie: offensive. My Little Pony: a marketing idea. |
