12 Things I Love About Toronto
By Ruth Skinner
- Toronto Island Ferry and Toronto Island
I suppose it has something to do with being born on an island that attracts me to other islands...but there you go! Whatever the case, I love taking the ferry, biking there in the summer and having a sense that I'm escaping the city...most delightful!
- Kensington Market
I still love visiting all my favorite vintage clothing stores such as "Courage my Love" and "Bungalow." The market has so many layers to it that I still have that excitement of visiting a new uncharted territory...that, and finding cheap stuff!
- Leslie Spit
A new discovery for me! We cycled around it last weekend and it is surprisingly pretty...a landscape full of wildflowers! Landfill never looked so good!
- Victory Cafe
Ah yes, Andrea, the good old days of the "Victorious" at table 10. And while we don't go there as much anymore it is nice to know that we still can.
- Baseball games at Christie Pits
A new pastime introduced by Avi that is a very nice way to spend a balmy summer evening.
- St. Lawrence Market
Well, I'd be really bad if I didn't mention this landmark as I happen to live just around the corner. As Iza says, "great deals on Saturday at 4:00!"
- Live music in small venues
I love the fact that you can still catch some amazing music acts in small venues throughout the city!
- Petting Toronto Police Horses
Being a horse-lover in the middle of a city can be challenging! But thanks to Toronto's finest, I'm given a equine fix every now and then.
- Rep Cinemas
Love going to one of the rep cinemas on a warm summer evening! Definitely one of my favorite things to do!!!
- Looking out over Lake Ontario and pretending that it is an ocean!
I've got this fantasy down to a science and certain spots DO actually look like ocean waterfront, i.e. parts of Leslie Spit and Wards Island...and when you squint your eyes the Beaches does look fairly believable!
- The Waterfront
All I can say is that it is growning on me!
- Friends
I'm very lucky and they are the reason I stay in this crazy/lovely city!
Andrea Ledwell and Ruth Skinner are both from PEI and are good friends. Ruth makes Toronto a nicer place to live. |
