Stumbling across some posters on College Street finally brings happy news from an independent movie theatre.

We got a visit from the FAMOUS GUITAR, and man are we nerds.

 

Friday, August 4 at Kathedral, 651 Queen Street West , General Rudie and Makeshift Heroes. General Rudie is a five member ska band from Montreal , Quebec . The General Rudie sound is primarily based on traditional Jamaican ska, a style in which their roots are firmly planted. Makeshift Heroes create “totally dubbed out laid back horn heavy trad ska.”

Every Sunday Jason Blanchard hosts The Comedy Clinic at The Fox & Fiddle, 106 John Street (at Adelaide , south of Hooters). Show time is 10:00 pm. “At this open mic comedy show anything can happen: nudity, loud drunken Irish footballers or even some funny stand up comedy. Wings are half price and pitchers of beer are $10.00.” Good luck!

Monday, August 7 there is a reading at the Gladstone Art Bar , 1214 Queen Street West . Strong Words Reading Series, a showcase of local indie literary talent, features Cameron Gordon, Kate Belcher and Paul Hong. 7:30pm , pwyc, www.indiepolitik.org.

The full title of the painting which inspired our magazine title is Homo sapiens, Lepidium sativum and Calliphora vomitoria - a wise man, some cress, and a bluebottle. It is the work of British artist Stuart Pearson Wright.
