Dee JAI is (you guessed it) a local DJ that has been spinning records in clubs around Toronto for the past couple of years. “I am only just getting into the DJ scene and living in this neighborhood has allowed me to be right in the heart of the action.”
“I have been going to raves and clubs since I was 15 and never envisioned myself being the one up there spinning because it was always guys.”
Now 22, Dee JAI (who asked us not to reveal her real name) says she started working for the Flow radio station as a summer student “and basically learned to scratch, mix and spin from some of the guys there. I took to it pretty fast and started doing shows at small clubs in and around Toronto, but my big break came when I was performing at Harbour Front Centre.”
As it turned out one of the people in the audience was an owner of Industry nightclub and asked her to play at an all girls MC Battle that they were hosting. If you ask Dee JAI it's been all down hill from there. “Since then I have been busy teaching girls how to spin and have my own posse of girlfriends that tour with me.” |
